PDF Expert 4.0 for iPad is enhanced with retina support and powerful features

3 April, 2012

PDF Expert

Our flagship app PDF Expert for iPad hits the AppStore with a major update to version 4.0.

This is the most powerful yet beautifully designed app for handling and editing PDF files. The update contains the most useful and wanted features such as retina support, document thumbnails, embedded Audio&Video, PDF attachments and PDF Portfolio.

So what’s new in PDF Expert 4.0 for iPad:

-Retina support – probably one of the most wanted features for people who use the new iPad. It comes handy while reading text and making annotations on PDFs.

-Embedded Audio&Video – now you can watch the videos which are embedded in PDFs! This is an amazing selling tool, think of all those sales people using their iPads for demonstration purposes. This feature can also be used for handling educational materials in schools and universities.

-PDF Attachments and PDF Portfolio support – Readdle is keen on using all the capabilities of the PDF format on the iPad. This is why we keep improving PDF Expert, making in the most powerful PDF editor in the AppStore.

We are giving away 5 promo codes so you can enhance your iPad with this powerful app. In order to participate, just follow us on Twitter or like our Facebook page. You have to share this post with your friends. The winners will be announced in 2 days.

Good luck!

As always, your comments and feedback are more than welcomed.

P.S. Some issues:
1) If you are having issues with non-retina icon – just reboot your iPad (this is an iOS bug).
2) There is an issue with “open in” PDF Expert from Mail, DropBox and other apps. Try to delete a few file-management apps and PDF Expert will appear in the pop-up window.

Not very nice to see a white square in the middle of my iPad first page

    1. Readdle says:

Alessandro, this is an iOS bug. Can you please try to reboot your iPad or reinstall PDF Expert?
      That should help.

There is an issue with “open in” PDF Expert from Mail, DropBox and other apps. Try to delete a few file-management apps and PDF Expert will appear in the pop-up window.

Not currentlly using your app but wanted to explain the issue above. There is a 10 item limit in the “open in” list. New apps you install that can open the same file format (eg. PDF) push older apps off the list once this limit is reached. The advice to delete apps not being used that appear in the list is good. Also, since the most recently installed app takes precedence, you can delete and reinstall your favorite to get it back on the list. Just remember you may have data attached to the app, so be careful if you choose to reinstall.

  43. Kelly says:

Just upgraded PDF Expert, I can no longer add an image to the PDF document. BIG problem for me… :(

    1. Readdle says:

Kelly, the update is already submitted to the AppStore.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Once you will download the 4.0.1 update, it’ll work smoothly.

  44. Christian Theussl says:

  45. Iris says:

Jus downloaded PDF expet 4.0 update on my iPad 2 which has iOS 5.0

The “open in” PDF expert window does no show up when trying to open PDF files from my email or Dropbox. I rebooted 3 times with no luck. I am not going to delete my kindle app- I shouldnt have to!!!!! Please help as the PDF expert is rendered unusable if we can’t open new files in it!!!

    1. Readdle says:

      Iris,

The update will fix this issues. It is coming in 4-5 days.
      Sorry for the inconvenience.

  46. Iris says:

    For the portable prof

I have 4 apps – iBooks, docstogo, share plus, and kindle. Why should I delete those so I can see PDF expert in the open in window? That sound crazy!

  47. Readdle says:

So the lucky winners of PDF Expert for iPad are @syke09 @pussycatzhuang Fan Yale, Luke Sherwin and Tom Benton! Congrats guys!

Thanks everyone for the participation! Stay tuned for great news!

P.S. The update is coming very soon and all issued will be fixed.

  48. Marsha says:

New to PDF Expert 4 but have the following problem

Can download and upload pdf files from Box.net and Dropbox just fine.

Any attempt to download or upload from SugarSync gives an error 405.

Happy to provide additional information – this is important to me, so I hope it can be fixed easily.

    Thank you,
    -Marsha

  49. Iris says:

Thanks Readdle. So upsetting to not be able to open new files in PDF expert.

  50. Vincent says:

Some work files emailed to me are protected by passwords and can’t be opened in the PDF Expert. What should I do?

    1. Readdle says:

Vincent, can you please contact our support team?

  51. Marsha says:

Readdle, sorry for not being clear in my message above. It’s my inexperience.

Most of SugarSync works just fine (further examination on my part.) What I use (probably too mucy) is the Archive Folder in SugarSync, and that just doesn’t seem available when I open up all the folders inside “Computer Name”. Anything in “Computer Name” uploads or downloads just fine. Thanks and maybe I’ll learn how to get to the archive folder.

  52. Nuno says:

I do everything in this app…

I actually see my movies… AMAZING

    THANK YOU!

  53. derek says:

I’m unable to open DropBox PFDs with PDF Expert since upgrading–DropBox no longer provides the option.

  54. derek says:

    Got it!
    Did a delete and re-install.

  55. Steve S says:

Since the update various form data is either not showing at all, or calculating improperly. The forms work fine in Acrobat on Mac and PC, and look fine in the native PDF reader. This problem only occurs in PDF Expert.

    1. Readdle says:

Steve, can you please contact us with more info at rdsupport@readdle.com ?

  56. Dave says:

Since updating to 4.0.2 I cannot tab through fields on my PDF’s. Each time I click on “next” the tab moves backward. Will this be fixed?

    1. Readdle says:

Dave, have you tried other forms? it might be the form itself causing problems.

  57. Keese, Steven P. says:

How to Lengthen a text box, before typing on a flatten form??

I am new to PDF Expert 4. I just opened a Flat Legel Document and clicked on “T” color “Black” and tapped on the iPAD 2 screen where I wanted to type.
I typed ‘Child Support and Medical Rembursment’

What was on the form was:
    Child S
    upport
    and
    Medic
    l Rem
    bursm
    ent

How do I lengthen the blocktabs??

  58. Jean says:

I use PDF Expert to fill in forms. It appears that the only way to save the filled-in form is to save a copy. Is there any to save the form (as you are working on it) under the original name?

    1. Readdle says:

      Jean,

Not really. All changes you make to the document are being saved automatically and once you finished editing you get the final document. If you press “Save as a Copy”, PDF Expert creates a new document (copy) with all the edits you have already made, and leaving the original document fresh/ blank.
