ReaddleDocs 2.1 integrates Google Docs and Dropbox in one complete iPhone application February 10, 2010

Today is a wonderful day for us and for our valued users as well. ReaddleDocs update 2.1 adds Google Docs and Dropbox integration and now is available in the App Store: http://itunes.com/app/readdledocs. This integration makes ReaddleDocs 2.1 the only iPhone application that allows moving files between Dropbox, MobileMe iDisk and Google Docs. In addition, we added some new features requested by our users, namely the ability to delete thumbnails in ReaddleDocs Browser and to save web archives (complete pages with images). Also improved saving attachments via POP3.

Below are a few excerpts from the official press release, for those who are interested the details:

Recently announced updates in Google Docs service make it possible to store any type of file in it, which gives the popular software-as-a-service product an important online storage component. ReaddleDocs 2.1 utilizes these new capabilities by freely moving documents from Google Docs to iPhone and vice versa. In addition to regular office document types, Google Apps Premier Edition customers can copy any files to their accounts.

Dropbox storage support is another very important addition implemented in ReaddleDocs 2.1. Now all Dropbox users can browse their Dropbox accounts to get necessary file, download them directly to the iPhone and even upload new files and photos to the online. Combined with ReaddleDocs’ ability to access email attachments, it makes ReaddleDocs 2.1 the first iPhone application that can save email attachments to Dropbox.

“Google Docs and Dropbox integration were two most popular enhancements requested by our users. We are glad to address these requests with ReaddleDocs 2.1 release and are sure that the update will allow our customers to accomplish even more tasks using their iPhones and iPod Touches,” – says Igor Zhadanov, Readdle CEO.

The update brings significant improvements in saving attachments via POP3 protocol. In addition, ReaddleDocs 2.1 features updated built-in web browser interface which allows instant return to last visited site and quick access to browser bookmarks.

What happened to the USB support? Has it been removed? Did Apple request it’s removal?

Readdle February 11th, 2010

@Ash Apple have requested to remove USB sharing capability form
ReaddleDocs. Still ReddleDocs users, that have updated the application (not reinstalled or removed “Device Files” shortcut) may continue using USB cable to copy files.

Also if you’re using Mac, you can get USBGate: http://usbgate.org/
This app also allows to upload files via USB but in a completely different way (emulating WebDAV connection over USB).

We assume that USBGate version for Windows users will be available pretty
soon.

I just tried the new release with Dropbox. I got Dropbox at Readdle’s suggestion as I was having trouble getting a Webdav connection to work well.

It works! I did a sync, went to ReaddleDocs on my iPhone, filled in my login and password for Dropbox and there is was, my Dropbox directory.

I like it !! Nice job guys.

@Sabin, the current ReaddleDocs version has integrated Dropbox service. This means that you don’t need additional Dropbox application installed on your iPhone. Below are some tips how to configure Dropbox account inside ReaddleDocs:
1. Launch ReaddleDocs on your iPhone and navigate to ‘Network’ tab
2. Press ‘Add’ button in left top corner and you get a list of services (the srceenshot of this page is published above in the post)
3. Select ‘Dropbox’ and enter your login & password.

That’s all what you need to do to set up Dropbox account. As a
result, Dropbox account label will be displayed under ‘Favorite’ sections. If any questions arise, please feel free to email rdsupport’at’readdle.com

Ok, I’ve become a DropBox user just because your app’s new features. While I can download files from my DropBox account I cannot find a way to upload files already stored in ReaddleDocs. Selecting MOVE only shows folders already on my iPhone.

Is the connection between ReaddleDocs and DropBox only for downloads?
