How to transcribe audio files to text

You may have your audio file(s) in different places on your iPhone or iPad. It may be a .mp3 or .m4a file saved in your Files app or iCloud Drive, or it may be an audio file sent by someone over email. No matter where the audio file is saved, you can bring that file into Documents app and transcribe it. Here’s how:

  1. First, get the Free Documents app from the App Store.
  2. Go to where your audio file is, then tap the Share icon.
  3. Choose the ‘Save to Documents’ option.

  1. On the next screen, tap the ‘Transcribe to Text’ option from the list.

  1. Documents will show you a summary of its Free Audio to Text transcription process on iPhone. Note that only the English language is currently supported.
  2. Tap the ‘Start’ button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Once completed, the text transcript in plain text format will be saved in the Inbox folder in Documents.

Transcribe Voice Memos to text using Documents app on iPhone

  1. Open the Voice Memos app and locate the audio that you want to transcribe.
  2. Tap once to select the memo, then tap on the three dots to the right.

  1. Next, choose the ‘Transcribe to Text’ option.

  1. Tap the Start button to begin the audio-to-text transcription process.
